1. Textile Selection — 20–30 minutes
Each piece begins with selecting a section of Liezhi crack-weave fabric with strong color, texture, and enough density for a slim pouch form.

2. Composition & Cutting — 30–45 minutes
Because every part of the fabric is different, the artisan studies the stripe placement and woven rhythm before cutting the final panels.

3. Pouch Shaping — 1–1.5 hours
The textile is shaped into a slim vertical pouch, with attention to proportion, phone-friendly structure, and how the woven surface sits across the body.

4. Sewing & Reinforcement — 1.5–2 hours
The pouch panels, side seams, and stress points are sewn and reinforced to support light everyday use.

5. Cord & Edge Finishing — 1–1.5 hours
The cord strap, edge details, and handmade textile finishes are completed carefully for comfort and visual balance.

6. Final Inspection — 30 minutes
Each piece is checked for shape, texture, stitching, cord stability, and overall balance before being photographed individually.

Material

Liezhi crack-weave textile

The fabric has a raised, tactile surface with visible woven texture and natural variation. Color placement, stripe pattern, surface density, and small fiber details may vary throughout the piece.

Soft textile cord, reinforced edge finishing, and mixed textile fibers are used to complete the pouch structure.

These variations are part of the textile’s handmade character and make each piece unique.

Care Instructions

What is Liezhi Weave?

Liezhi Weave, or 裂织, is a Chinese rewoven textile craft that transforms reclaimed fabric into new handwoven cloth. Instead of treating old or leftover textiles as waste, the fabric is cut or torn into narrow strips, then woven again to create a new material with rich texture, natural color variation, and a deeply tactile surface.

Unlike ordinary printed or machine-made fabric, every piece of Liezhi Fabric carries the marks of its original materials. Slight differences in thickness, tone, and weave are not flaws — they are part of the beauty of the craft. Each piece reflects a slower way of making, where discarded fabric is given a second life through handweaving.

Liezhi Weave does not come from luxury or court tradition. It is rooted in everyday Chinese folk wisdom: reuse what already exists, waste as little as possible, and turn humble materials into something meaningful again. Similar in spirit to Japanese Sakiori, Liezhi Weave belongs to its own Chinese textile context and expresses a quiet, sustainable approach to craft.

How can I tell if Liezhi Fabric is high quality?

High-quality Liezhi Fabric is tightly woven, with a rich three-dimensional texture, natural woven lines, a substantial hand feel, and clean, firmly finished edges.

Lower-quality versions are often loosely woven, thin, or slightly translucent, with flatter texture, messy surface patterns, rough frayed edges, and a higher chance of deformation or damage over time.

Can I machine wash Liezhi Fabric?

Machine washing is not recommended. The rewoven structure may be affected by strong spinning, friction, or heat. For best results, gently spot clean or hand wash with cold water only when necessary.

Is Liezhi Fabric a defected or damaged fabric?

No. Liezhi Fabric is not damaged fabric. The irregular raised texture is intentionally created through the rewoven structure. What may look like “cracks” are actually woven layers formed by reclaimed textile strips.

What affects the price of Liezhi products?

Larger products or pieces with wider Liezhi Fabric coverage require more material and more handwork. Since each piece is woven from reclaimed textile strips, the texture, color layering, and visual balance cannot be exactly repeated. A more refined composition with richer texture and better color harmony usually requires more careful material selection and craftsmanship.

How do I clean and care for Liezhi Fabric?

Liezhi Fabric has a special rewoven structure, so frequent washing is not recommended.

For daily care, gently remove dust or spot clean when needed. If washing is necessary, hand wash only with cold water. Avoid hot water, machine washing, hard scrubbing, long soaking, bleach, high-temperature drying, and direct sunlight. Proper care helps preserve the texture, shape, and lifespan of the fabric.
